今月は、英語のパターンについてのページを追加しましたが、会話中のあいずちや反応の英語のパターンも覚えておくと便利です。Really？ I see などのおなじみの反応以外に、自然で会話が進むものを、Oxford Online Englishのビデオも参考にしながらご紹介します。
このビデオ、あいずち・反応の説明以外に役に立つことがあります。ビデオの初めにDanielさんがこう言います：

この、you can learn to respondのcanが、ゆっくりはっきり Weak formになっているので、是非意識して聞いていただきたいと思い、他にもこれに似たビデオがありましたが、このビデオを使うことにしました。
また、DanielさんはBritish English、StephanieさんはNorth American Englishですので、発音もそうですが、イントネーションの違いなども意識して聞くと面白いと思います。
このビデオに出てくる表現は、このブログの最後にリストにしています。ビデオに出てくる表現以外にもいろいろなあいずちがありますので、以下の会話文を使ってご紹介します。太字の部分があいずちで、使い方なども会話文の後に書きました。どの表現もイントネーションが大切ですので、近い将来、音声を追加する予定です。
Becky What did you do at the weekend?
Sue We went for a walk in Hampstead Heath.
Becky That’s nice.
Sue Yes, The weather was gorgeous, not like last week.
Becky The rain was terrible.
Sue Abysmal.
Becky Did you have a swim on the Heath?
Sue Absolutely not. I’m terrified of water.
Becky Are you?
Sue I used to be afraid of having a shower when I was a kid.
Becky You must be joking.
Sue No. Really.
Becky Gosh! That’s quite extreme!
Sue I know. I can have a shower now, of course, but swimming? No, thank you.
Becky I don’t blame you.
Sue Did you do something exciting?
Becky I went shopping with Kate. You know Kate, don’t you?
Sue Of course. How is she?
Becky She’s doing all right. She’s a bit fed up with her job, though. She worked 60 hours last week, apparently.
Sue 60 hours!
Becky I don’t know how she managed to get out of bed, let along going shopping with me.
Sue Did you buy something nice?
Becky I saw a beautiful pair of shoes, but I Rick would go mad if I bought them.
Sue Tell me about it. All men are the same.
Becky Absolutely.
That’s nice.
ビデオにも出てきますが、ただUh-huhと言うより、That’s nice.などという方が興味をもって聞いているような印象を与えます。Sounds good. もOK。
また、nice, good以上にすごいと思ったり、良い知らせに対しての反応なら、great, brilliant, excellent, wonderful, amazingなどを使わないとおかしい場合もあります。
もしSueが以前からずっとHampstead Heathに行くのが夢だった場合、niceではなく That’s great! など強めの単語を使わないと、そっけない感じになります。
Abysmal
Beckyがterribleを使ってひどい雨だったと言ったのに対し、同じ意味の別の単語（abysmal）を言うことで同意を示しています。このほか、horrible, awfulも使えます。
Absolutely not.
Noを強く言いたい時につかう。絶対No!という感じ。No wayとも言いますが、No wayのほうがカジュアルです。
Are you?
日本ではReally?が有名ですが、ワンパターンにならないようにするためにも、是非使っていただきたいのがこれ。
この会話では、I’m terrified of water. に対しての反応なのでAre you?ですが、
I like winter. だとDo you?、I was tired. だとWere you?、I’ve been there. だとHave you?、Mike likes Jane. だとDoes he?など、相手が言ったことによって言い方が変わるので慣れが必要ですが、言えるようになるとかなり自然な英語に聞こえますので、是非練習してみて下さい。
You must be joking!
これは、ビデオにも出てくる表現で、驚いたときに使います。Are you joking?やYou’re joking.とも言い、どの場合も、jokingの代わりにkiddingと言っても同じ意味になります。
Gosh!
驚きを表す。My goodness.や、Goodness me!とも言います。日本でもお馴染みWowもOK。
I don’t blame you.
(正当な理由があるので)それでいいと思うよと、同意している感じ。この表現は、英語のパターンのウェブページでも触れています。
Of course.
これは、お馴染みだと思います。「もちろん」という意味。
60 hours!
驚いた部分を繰り返す事で、驚きを表す。日本語でも、「休暇をとって北極に行ってきた」と言われたら「北極！？」と繰り返して驚きを表すことがありますよね。
Tell me about it.
自分自身同じような（良くない）経験があるので、「それ、わかる！」という感じの意味。I know.でもOK.
Absolutely.
同意を表す。Yesの代わりに何でもAbsolutelyと言う人がいるくらいよく耳にする表現です。DefinitelyもOK。
その他：
Exactly.
You’re right.の意味。
That’s right.
Yesの代わりに使える。
How interesting!
興味深いの意味で「面白い」と思った時に使える。どの表現もイントネーションが重要ですが、特にinterestingという単語は、言い方によっては「そういう意見もありますかぁ、面白いですね」のようにもとれるので、interestingを使う時には注意が必要です。

Oh, no!
ポジティブではない話を聞いた時の反応に使える。
