ノン・ネイティヴにとって、前置詞は永遠の課題と言ってもいいくらいです。ただ、at the weekend（イギリス英語）とon the weekend （アメリカ英語）のように、同じ英語でも国によって違う前置詞を使う場合もあるくらいですから、私達が混乱するのは無理もありません。
前置詞は沢山ありますが、今回は、比較的イメージしにくいという声が多い「at」について。使い方や表現など、全て書くとかなりの数になりますので、ここでは主な使い方をご紹介します。
また、inとの違いにも少し触れていますが、詳しいinの使い方は来月のブログでご紹介する予定です。

at night
in the nightとの違い
at nightは、一般的な夜（夜はいつも、または夜によく起こる事を言う時など）：
The temperature drops below zero at night during winter.
The noise of the next-door neighbour keeps me awake at night.
in the nightは、during the nightの意味：
There was heavy snow in the night (またはduring the night).
宗教的な期間（2日以上ある）

始めにも書きましたが、アメリカ英語はonを使います。
一番上/下、始め/終わり
at the top

at the beginning
at the end
inとの違い
at the beginning、at the endは、開始/終了のポイントを表す時に使い、一番始め/最後にすることや場所に使います。
At the beginning of the speech, you should introduce yourself.
You need to use a full stop at the end of a sentence.
At the beginning of the match, players shook hands.
At the end of the match, players shook hands again.
In the beginningは、ストーリーやイベントの始めのあたりを表します。
In the beginning of his speech, nobody could tell what he was on about. But when he showed a diagram, everything became clear.
We argued a lot in the beginning of our relationship.
In the endは、ある期間や色々な事があった後。最終的な結果をいう時に使うことが多いです。
In the end, I decided not to accept the offer.
It was very close, but in the end, Willams won.
場所、建物の場所
We all met up at Steve’s (at Steve’s house).
This train does not stop at Wimbledon. （駅）
I live at 140 Park Street.（住所）
The plane arrived at Heathrow Airport.（空港）
家、駅、空港などを場所として考える場合はatですが、建物の「中」と言いたい場合は、inを使います。
I’m in the house. (玄関でも庭でもなく家の中にいる)
I’m in the station. (入り口などではなく駅の建物の中にいる)
I’m in the airport.
人は空港の建物の中に入れますが、飛行機が空港の建物の中に到着することはまずないので、The plane arrived in the airport.はおかしいです。

at the back of the kitchen
at the corner of the road（部屋の中の場合はin the corner）
何かのそば、近く
I’m at the bus stop in front of the bank.
Someone’s at the door.
We all sat at the table and had some tea and cake.
＊We all sat on the tableだと、テーブルの上に座ったの意味。
イベントやアクティビティの場
Mike’s at lunch at the moment, I’m afraid.
I’m giving a keynote speech at the conference.
I met my husband at a party.
We’ll discuss that at a meeting next week.
Meeting中の場合、He’s in the meeting.
学校や大学などに通って勉強している
Justin studied mathematics at Cambridge.
I met Pam at college. (学生時代に出会った)
I met Pam at the college.（待ち合わせの場所がCollegeだった）
Are your children still at school?（在学中かを聞いている、または、「もう学校から帰って来ている？」という意味でもあります）
狙い・的
Throw the ball to him, not at him!（atはhimを狙ってぶつけている）
Stop shouting at me!（怒鳴りつける的がme）
Look at that!（目線の的がthat）
原因
I’m mad at you. （youが原因で怒っている）
Tom was surprised at her behaviour. （her behaviourが原因で驚いた）
James was so funny – everyone laughed at his jokes.（his jokesが笑いの原因）
上手・下手・うまくやるなど
I’m very good at maths.
Brenda’s excellent at managing people.
She’s an expert at baking bread.
Dave’s doing very well at his new job.
I’m not good at that.
John’s quite bad at sports.
値段・年齢・スピードなど
Shawn did his PhD at the age of 16.
They’re selling old CDs at a pound each.
I was driving at 90 mph when the speed camera caught me.
